Subclass 476 – Skilled Recognised Graduate Visa

The Skilled Recognised Graduate Visa (Subclass 476) is a temporary visa designed for recent engineering graduates who want to gain skilled work experience in Australia.
This visa supports graduates from recognised engineering institutions and allows them to live, work, and gain industry exposure in Australia for a limited period.

Who This Visa Is For

Eligibility Requirements

You must:

  • Be under 31 years of age

  • Have completed an engineering degree within the last 2 years

  • Hold a qualification in an eligible engineering discipline

  • Graduate from a recognised institution

  • Meet English language requirements

  • Meet health and character requirements

  • Not have previously held certain temporary graduate visas (unless exempt)


Eligible Engineering Disciplines

Your qualification must be in one of the following areas:

  • Civil engineering

  • Structural or building engineering

  • Mechanical engineering

  • Electrical or electronic engineering

  • Chemical engineering

  • Environmental engineering

  • Mining or materials engineering

  • Industrial or production engineering


Recognised Institutions

Your degree must be from:

  • A Washington Accord–accredited institution, or

  • Another institution formally recognised by the Australian Government

Attendance at unaccredited or affiliated colleges alone is not sufficient.


Duration of Stay

  • Up to 18 months from the date the visa is granted

  • The visa cannot be extended

  • Time on this visa does not automatically lead to PR

  • Work full-time in Australia

  • Gain relevant engineering experience

  • Study short courses or professional development

  • Travel in and out of Australia while the visa is valid

  • Bring eligible family members

  • Visa application charge starts from AUD 465

English Language Requirements

You must meet one of the approved English standards, such as:

  • IELTS

  • TOEFL iBT

  • PTE Academic

  • OET

  • Cambridge C1 Advanced

Minimum scores must be met in each component.

  • Police clearance certificates may be required

  • You must meet Australian character standards
