National Employment List for TSS Visa

The National Employment List for the Temporary Skill Shortage TSS visa outlines occupations that may be sponsored by approved Australian employers when suitably qualified local workers are not available.

If your occupation appears on this list and you meet skill, experience, and employer sponsorship requirements, you may be eligible to apply under the TSS visa program.

Visa Aid assists applicants and employers in assessing eligibility, occupation relevance, and sponsorship obligations before proceeding with a nomination or visa application.

Regional Occupation List Explained

The Regional Occupation List applies to positions located in designated regional areas of Australia.

You may qualify for a TSS visa if:

  • Your occupation is listed on the Regional Occupation List, or

  • Your occupation appears on the Medium and Long Term Strategic Skills List or Short Term Skilled Occupation List, and

  • Your employment is based in an eligible regional location.

Each listed occupation includes:

  • ANZSCO occupation title

  • ANZSCO code

  • Assessing authority responsible for skills assessment

Assessing Authority Requirement

Most TSS visa occupations require a skills assessment from the nominated assessing authority before nomination or visa approval.

Common assessing authorities include:

  • VETASSESS

  • Engineers Australia

  • TRA

  • MedBA

Visa Aid can advise whether a formal skills assessment is required for your specific occupation and visa stream.

Employer Sponsorship Obligations

To sponsor a worker under the TSS visa, the employer must:

  • Be an approved standard business sponsor

  • Demonstrate a genuine need for the role

  • Meet market salary and employment conditions

  • Offer a position aligned with the nominated occupation

  • Comply with Australian workplace laws

Failure to meet sponsorship obligations may result in refusal or cancellation.

Location Matters

Regional employment provides additional migration opportunities but comes with strict location requirements.

The position must be:

  • Physically located in a designated regional area

  • Actively performed at that location

  • Compliant with regional migration conditions

Visa Aid verifies regional eligibility before lodging any application.

Important Notes

  • Occupation lists are subject to change without notice

  • Inclusion on the list does not guarantee visa approval

  • Nomination and visa are assessed separately

  • Health, character, and English requirements still apply
