The Entrepreneur Stream Visa (Subclass 188E) is designed for innovative entrepreneurs who wish to develop and commercialise a business idea in Australia. Applicants must be nominated by an Australian State or Territory government and submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect.

This visa allows entrepreneurs to establish or participate in a business venture in Australia that contributes to economic growth and innovation.

  • Applicants may apply for this visa either from inside or outside Australia.
  • Applicants applying from within Australia must hold a valid substantive visa or an appropriate Bridging Visa (A, B, or C)..

188E Stream for Entrepreneurs

Requirements in general

  • • Nomination by an Australian State or Territory government
    • Proficient English language ability
    • Under 55 years of age (unless exceptional economic benefit applies)
    • Minimum funding commitment of AUD 200,000
    • Genuine intention to develop a business in Australia
    • Meet health and character requirements

Eligible commercial activities:

  • • Launching a new innovative product or service in Australia
    • Commercialising an original business concept
    • Scaling an innovative business venture

Acceptable funding

  • Funding must be sourced from:
    • State or Territory government bodies
    • Government-funded research institutions
    • Venture capital or early-stage investment partnerships
    • Approved private investors

    At least AUD 200,000 must be available for business development.

Be supported by a recognized entity if you were requested to apply on or after July 1, 2021.
  • Applicants must be supported by an approved Australian State or Territory government authority. Nomination confirms that the proposed business idea aligns with regional economic development goals.
