English Language Requirements for Subclass 485 Visa | Visa Aid Australia
To apply for the Graduate Temporary Visa (Subclass 485), applicants must meet specific English language requirements set by the Australian Government. Below are the accepted English tests and minimum score requirements explained clearly by Visa Aid Australia.
First Student Visa Requirement
If you filed for and received your first student visa on or after November 5, 2011, you are only eligible for a post-study work visa.
You are ineligible if you previously held a student visa that you applied for before 5 November 2011. This would apply to circumstances where you have studied and then returned home, if you have a visa to take English or non-award courses, or even if you have a dependent student visa.
You will still be ineligible if you had held a student visa that you applied for before 5 November 2011, even if you did receive one after that date.
Keep in mind that the date you applied for the visa, not the date it was granted, is what matters.
If you applied for a student visa before November 5, 2011, but it was denied (for example, because it was rejected or you withdrew your application), you might still be eligible.
Australian Study Requirement
In Australia, you are required to finish a course or sequence of courses that lasts at least two academic years. There are several prerequisites:
- .The two years of study must be at the Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral level.
- .The studies must be submitted to CRICOS for registration, and the total registered study time must be at least 92 weeks.
- .If you received exemptions for studying abroad, those may be taken into account when determining whether you’ve met the 92-week minimum.
- .If each course satisfies the aforementioned standards and culminates in two academic years of study, you may count more than one course.
- .You are allowed to take a break between classes.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
Applicants can meet English requirements through IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, OET, or Cambridge English. Minimum scores apply as per Home Affairs guidelines
REQUIREMENTS FOR HEALTH INSURANCE
When your 485 visa is approved, you will need to demonstrate that you have suitable health insurance arrangements. While OSHC (Overseas Student Health Cover) is acceptable at the time of application, you will need Working Visa coverage for your 485 visa to be approved.
While you have a 485 visa, you must continue to be covered by your working visa. If you don’t keep up this degree of protection, your 485 visa could be revoked.
HEALTH CHECK
A 485 visa will typically require you to undergo medical examinations. You might be eligible to utilise these medical records again if you recently applied for a student visa extension.
Police Clearance
For yourself and any family members who are 16 years old or older, an Australian Federal Police (AFP) Check is required. You must submit an application for the AFP checks before submitting your 485 visa.
Application Time Limit
Once your Australian studies are over, you have six months to apply for your 485 visa. When you apply, you must either already have a student visa or have had one within the last six months. Additionally, you must make sure that you apply before your student visa expires, or at the very least have applied for another visa and are in possession of a bridging A or B visa at the time the 485 application is submitted.
